Amazon today announced the Kindle Fire, it’s first full-color Android tablet. The Kindle Fire is an amazing tablet, both in terms of aesthetics and technical features.
Interestingly, it’s priced at just $199 which is considerably cheaper than several other competing tablets, yet it does not compromise on features.
Amazon Kindle Fire features a 7-inch capacitive multi-touch display covered by Gorilla Glass. This protects the display from usual domestic dents and scratches. The physical appearance reminds us of BlackBerry Playbook (no buttons on the face), but yes there’s Android under that display.
Kindle Fire is powered by a dual-core TI OMAP4 CPU, driven by Android OS nicely topped with Amazon’s custom UI. There’s plethora of apps and serves built right into the tablet. These include support for Android’s App Store, Amazon MP3, Prime Instant video, etc. Besides that, you get a 30-day subscription of Amazon Prime, for free.
Now, that marks Amazon’s electrifying entry into the world of Android tablets, and with a $199 price tag, it’s quite obvious that the tablet will find enough takers, and admirers as well.
The less glamorous version of Kindle will now sell for $79. It won’t have 3G support, but Wi-Fi connectivity is built-in to allow for downloading books or browsing the web.
Perhaps, it will make an inexpensive yet amazing gift to your siblings this holiday season. Or, you might also consider the newly launched Amazon Kindle Touch.
The Amazon Kindle Touch features everything good that the Kindle has, but sans a physical keyboard and gets a e-ink touch display.
For those with a desire for 3G connectivity, the Amazon Kindle Touch 3G is available for $149 while the Wi-Fi only version costs $99 with ads or $139 without adds.
Beyond all that, the Amazon Kindle Fire is all set to reform the tablet PC market. It’s easily one of the most desirable tablets with competitive features, and well, Amazon branding – not to mention the wide array of Amazon services that it brings along.
There’s a great deal of talk about Amazon’s new tablets on the web, and why not, there’s every reason to be: they are beautiful, feature-packed and impressively affordable.
