If you are looking for a simple weather application that doesn’t clutter your desktop, or consume your PC’s resources, sWeather can help. sWeaher is a portable, system tray-based weather application that supports multiple locations. It collects data from Yahoo! Weather Service, and the system tray icons displays the current temperature and weather condition of selected location. Maximize the application to view a detailed description, including humidity, visibility. wind speed and direction, sunrise/sunset timings and the next day’s basic forecast. You can store and switch between multiple locations in the application’s basic view, while the expanded view allows you to compare weather conditions for multiple locations.

The interface of sWeather has drop down menus at the top, namely File, Locations, Options and Help. Weather details appear in the middle and buttons for Go to Next Location, Go to Previous Location, Refresh Weather Data, Show Expanded View and Show Options Dialogue are at the right side.

To store your location, click Options and choose Configure. In the configuration panel, click Add to enter your location and its WOEID (Where On Earth ID – more on that below). Under Options, you can change Temperature unit, enable/disable Temperature Tray icon, allow Start with Windows and Start minimized. Moreover, you can change the system tray icons from the drop down menus at the bottom-right side of the dialog box. Click Save to complete configuration.

To get your WOEID, open Yahoo! Weather in your browser and search your location. WOEID is the numeric portion at the end of the URL for the forecast page of your selected city.

You can add multiple locations in the same way, and switch between them from the Locations drop down menu. Weather data can be refreshed by hitting F5 or choosing Refresh Weather Data from Options.

If you want to view and compare the weather for multiple locations, choose Expanded View from Options. Expanded View displays City, Region, Country, Temperature, High/Low, Humidity and several other weather variables.

sWeather works on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, for both 32- and 64-bit architectures.

Free Stock Downloader is a portable program that lets you download opening price, closing price, day-high, day-low and volume data for any company covered by Yahoo! Finance. The application saves the data in CSV format that can be exported to a spreadsheet viewer to look for patterns in the stock’s performance.

The interface has two drop down menus, From and To, to select the start and end dates for the stock data to be harvested. For example, if you want to view the data for the past 3 weeks, open the From drop-down and select the date. Current day’s date will be in To by default. Click Start to initiate the download process.

To select your desired stocks, open stock.txt file (inside Stock Downloader folder) and enter the ticker for your desired company. You can check the stock tickers for all companies from Yahoo! Finance website.

The downloaded data can be accessed from CsvArchive folder inside the Stock Downloader directory. The files are saved in CSV format, and can be viewed in any spreadsheet tool. Free Stock Downloader captures the following data for a particular stock; Date, Open (opening price), High (day-high), Low (day-low), Close (stocks day-end price), Volume (total trade volume of the day) and Adj Close (close price adjusted for splits and dividends).

Noow is a feature rich application that serves as an HD media player, torrent downloader, podcast client and a multimedia file manager. You can integrate any web service which offers audio, video or torrent downloading capability to Noow interface. For example, you can integrate MegaVideo by simply adding its URL to Noow sources and browse through the website via Noow. When a video is played from a source website, a option to download to your local drive automatically appears. Similarly, you can add podcast feeds and torrent websites, browse through them and download content. Although Noow is an HD media player, it plays back even lower quality videos quite well.

During installation, you are provided with an option to select a directory containing your local media files. The audio and video files from a selected directory automatically get organized within Noow.

For example, the videos are added to the Videos section and the audio files are added to the Music section. In case you would like to add more directories or add files to your video and music collection, go to File -> Import.

Noow comes with some pre-installed sources for audio, video and torrent websites, including YouTube, Hulu, PBS, YouTorrent and ClearBits. You are free to add other websites from the Sources section, for example, you can add MegaVideo, Vimeo, Iso Hunt etc simply by entering their URLs.

Once a web service is added as a Source, you can browse through the website. When a video or audio track is streamed, you are automatically provided the option to download it via Noow.

Similarly, you can download a torrent files by adding and browsing through source websites.

All downloaded files can be viewed and managed from Downloads.

Noow can also convert audio and video files to popular mobile formats, and contains presets for some popular devices including, Behold II, Cliq/DEXT, G2, Epic, galaxy tab, Hero, Magic, nexus, iPad, iPhone, iPod, etc.

By default, Noow comes with a number of podcasts including TED, Lifehacker, This American and VODOD. Adding new podcasts and updating existing ones can be done from Sidebar drop down menu. The section below podcasts allows creating custom audio and video playlists.

With billions of webpages, parental control on the internet usage of young kids is a big issue. Many parents are concerned about not knowing what their kids are watching or reading on the internet when they are alone. Qustodio is a parental control application to easily block and keep track of your kids’ online activities. It lets you create separate profile for each kid, define different web surfing categories and time usage limitations for different profiles. With Qustodio, you can monitor your child’s social networking activities as well as control their online access, receive notifications about suspicious websites visits and lock internet or computer usage once they reach set time limits.

If you are using Qustodio for the first time, you will have to set up an account. It will ask for information regarding the number of children that you want to monitor, their names, date of birth and gender. When done, set up Windows accounts for each child that uses the computer. You will use these accounts to set up individual protection levels for each child from your Family Protection Portal web app. Finally, you need to choose the device name and enable/disable option to hide Qustodio desktop app from your children. Once all settings are in place, click Restart Now to reboot you system for changes to take effect.

Qustodio sits in system tray. You can access Qustodio web app by clicking its icon in system tray.

Clicking Configure will open Activity Summary page in default browser. Qustodio updates the stats after every 3 hours. The summary page explains internet usage on a pie-chart showing percentage of time spent on different categories of websites against number of minutes spent on each website.

When you scroll down the page, you can see the minutes spent on each website.

Under Rules & Settings tab, you can define different Web Browsing Rules for each child. It allows you to select Website Categories that you want to permit. You may either totally block the website category or just monitor your kid’s activities.

You have the option to set the amount of time your children can spend on PC in a day. From Time Usage Limits tab, you can select Lock navigation (disable offline use), Lock Computer (disable both online and offline use) or Alert Me (sends you an alert when your child reaches the time limit) as the Computer Lock Type. When a website category is blocked, your kid will not be able to access any website belonging to that category.

Qustodio automatically logs you out if there is no activity so you don’t have to worry about someone else changing the settings in case you forget to log out. Since the application controls are web-based, you can access them from anywhere. Qustodio works on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.
